LANDIS VOTING PRECINT CHANGES

The Rowan County Board of Elections has voted to combine the East and West Landis voting precints. All voters within these precincts will now be voting at the South Branch of the Rowan Public Library located on Kimball Road. This change will be effective with the next election.

UPDATE TOWN OF LANDIS TO BEGIN ROLLOUT GARBAGE COLLECTION

Starting Monday, July 11, 2011 the Town of Landis will begin curbside garbage collection with rollout containers. Collection will be every Monday and bins will need to be rolled out Sunday night for collection.

If you do not receive your cart by Thursday, July 7th, 2011 please contact City Hall at 704.857.4111.

Once this service begins, recycling will also be collected on a weekly basis every Tuesday.

Furlough Days for Town Offices to Begin in July

Starting in July, all Town Offices will be closed the 3rd Friday of every month for employee furlough days. This will not affect emergency services.

SENIOR SOCIAL IS NOW THE 3RD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH

The monthly senior social is now on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 1:00p. It is still held at the American Legion Building. Everyone is welcome to attend.

In the February billing, there is a form on the back of your bill that asks for updated contact information. The Town is collecting this information to implement a call alert system that can contact customers in various situations. Please complete this form when you pay your bill so that we can be certain we have accurate, up to date contact information for you.

Customers may also call our office at 704.857.2411 and give this information directly to one of our staff.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in this process.

Adopt-a-Stream and Adopt-a-Drain Programs in Landis

Adopt-A-Stream

The Town of Landis Stormwater Department would like to encourage public involvement in our stormwater program by offering activities to encourage citizen involvement. One of the new programs will be an Adopt-A-Stream program that will encourage volunteer groups to adopt a stream or section of stream to clean, monitor, and report any illegal dumping or activities that may cause harm to the stream environment. Currently, the section of Grants creek from W. Ryder Ave. to Kimball road is available for adoption. This section of creek follows the Town’s main sewer outfall right of way and offers many areas to enter the creek from Town property. We are looking for volunteers, whether individuals, or groups to adopt this section of stream. More streams will become available as interest develops.

Adopt-A-Drain

Another program the Town would like to develop is an Adopt-A-Drain program. This program will involve a group or individual that will adopt a particular stormdrain in their neighborhood to monitor for illegal dumping or other debris that may cause an issue with water quality leaving the drain. The Town of Landis will provide a drain marker that will indicate the drain has been adopted. We would also like the adoptee to provide us with updates on the status of the drain periodically.

Always remember, the water that enters the stormdrain is never treated before reaching your creeks and streams, therefore it is very important to monitor what is going into them!
