The Landis Board of Aldermen accepted a proclamation at their March Regular Meeting, Monday March 1st, 2010 declearing March as Brain Injury Awareness month.

The public will take notice that the Town of Landis enacted an ordinance on February 1, 2010, amending the Town of Landis Charter, as set forth in Section 1 of the Session Laws 1975, Chapter 213, ratified May 5, 1975, along with all acts amendatory thereof, to adopt the aldermen-manager form of government for the Town of Landis. That said ordinance does incorporate by reference those operational guidelines as established in Part 2 of Article 7 of N.C.G.S. Chapter 160A.

10-8-09 Update Concerning Proposed Graffiti Ordinance

The public hearing concerning the proposed graffiti ordinance for the Town of Landis was held at Monday's Regular Board meeting. Several citizens spoke out in opposition of the proposed ordinance as it was written. After discussion, the Board voted to table the matter until further research and study could be carried out.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Landis have called for a Public Hearing regarding a proposed Graffiti Ordinance for the Town of Landis. A copy of the proposed ordinance is available at Landis City Hall and may be obtained during normal business hours.

All citizens are invited to attend the public hearing to voice their opinions regarding this proposed ordinance.

Landis Fire Department Presents Wii Game to Little Boy

On Thursday, October 1st, 2009, the Landis Fire Department paid a visit to Brenners Childrens Hospital in Winston Salem. The visit wasn't to respond to a fire or any other type of emergency; it was to deliver a Wii game to a little boy who had been badly burned in an accident.

Little Daniel Poe was only 3 1/2 years old when he accidentally fell into a campfire. After weeks of treatment and therapy, the hospital realized the one thing that was helping him with his recovery was the use of a Wii game. Occupational therapist Dana Nakamura turned to the NC Firefighters Burned Childrens Fund for assistance.

Division Chief Arthur Delaney, the Landis Chapter President, received the open request and approached the Landis Public Power supervisor to see if they would be interested in helping. Director Steve Rowland gladly agreed to help provide Daniel with the tool he needed to aid in his recovery and the hospital was notified that the game would be purchased by Landis Public Power. The Watauga and Gaston chapters also provided additional games and the Wii steering wheel.

On Thursday Chief Delaney delivered the game to Daniel who was ecstatic; it was a joy to see him smile.

Daniel still has a long recovery ahead of him and the Landis Fire Department and Landis Public Power will be supporting him along the way.

First National Night Out in Landis

On Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 the Landis Police Department, working with other Town Departments and volunteers, hosted its first National Night Out in downtown Landis. The event was a huge success and everyone involved had a blast. We look forward to next year's National Night Out and would like to think everyone for their help and support.
