Yesterday afternoon Governor Cooper declared a state of emergency for all of North Carolina, ahead of Hurricane Irma. Today, Landis Mayor Mike Mahaley signed an order declaring a state of emergency for the Town of Landis. The most recent forecasts estimate that the hurricane will begin affecting the Landis area Monday evening.
All Town staff and public safety services are working diligently to prepare for any contingencies. Non-essential services have been reduced or suspended, as all available resources are being reallocated to strengthen our response. Additional police and fire protection personnel will be on-duty throughout the storm.
The emergency shelter for our area is the South Rowan YMCA, located at 950 Kimball Road.
Those needing emergency assistance during the storm should call 911. Should 911 become unavailable, residents can call Landis Town Hall at 704-857-2411.
All residents are encouraged to plan, and make necessary preparations before the storm. Additional information and guidance is available at http://ReadyNC.org
