Director of Public Works
The Town of Landis is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a full-time position to be classified as the Director of Public Works. The Department of Public Works consists of Electrical Distribution, Water Distribution, Wastewater and Stormwater Collection; as well as Streets and Sanitation and reports directly to the Town Manager. The Director of Public Works shall be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the activities of the department through subordinate supervisors. This position includes overall responsibility for the department’s capital and operating budgets, including development and administration, safety, training, motivation and leadership of department staff, citizen services and problem resolution, budgetary management and operational effectiveness. The position also involves advising the Town Manager and Council on long range planning for facilities and system capacity; technical and regulatory compliance needs; contract management of the solid waste and recycling collections; street resurfacing; water, wastewater and electric line extensions and other project management; and establishing and maintaining records and reports necessary for full compliance with all state and federal regulations. The Director is responsible for scheduling the work among the divisions in the Public Works Department. The position involves considerable public contact, initiative, and judgment and requires management of a large scope and variety of services including; projects, staff and budgets. Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age with a valid NC driver’s license. A certified criminal history and driving record will be required with all completed application packets. Qualified applicants must pass a drug screening and physical.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Graduate (or equivalent), basic knowledge of electric distribution systems, water distribution systems, waste water and stormwater distribution systems. Applicant must have experience in a supervisory role, as well as strong personnel management skills and basic computer knowledge.
Desirable Qualifications: College graduate; NC CDL; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to operate heavy machinery such as: bucket trucks, line trucks, backhoes, etc.
Starting Salary Range: Dependent upon qualifications
